Hello from Miss-Scuba.com,

October is an interesting month filled with emotions. Colors are vibrant and all around. Pink stands for Breast Cancer Awarness, while the yellow, orange and red falling leaves are signs of the fast approaching Holiday Season. Our editors searched and searched for gift ideas, so you won't have to. Miss Scuba compiled a comprehensive list of things a diver wants and can use. You will find suggestions for every budget in our "Holiday Gift Ideas".

So, get a glass of pumpkin chai, put your feet up and read on...

  • What's New on the Website

eLearning from three different point of view: the student's, the instructor's and PADI's

Whether you like it or not, the internet is here to stay and with that the "virtual life" most of us live these days. In today's world one can practically do everything from the comfort of her home without ever leaving that comfortable couch. Why fight traffic and crowds, when one can do grocery shopping for the family (and have it delivered to the doorstep), book her next adventure to Tibet (orbitz.com), talk to three of her best friends at the same time in three different time zones (skype) for free, pay bills, deposit her paycheck (chase) and pick a movie to watch instantly (netflix).

One can get a travel agent license, complete language courses with eLearning, so why not take a scuba class online? Because scuba requires being in the water, many people say. Of course it does, everybody knows that...

TRAVEL TIP OF THE WEEK: ROOM SERVICE SOMETIMES IS YOUR BEST BET
Whenever travelling late at night, call your hotel and order room service dinner, so when you arrive and check-in, dinner is already there. You might arrive so late that all restaurants are closed, but won't be hungry, suggested Hilaire Brosio. Read more Travel Tips here

DIVE GEAR OF THE WEEK: OCEANA DIVE SHADES

DIVE SHADES® are the original dive flag polarized sunglasses. Their watersports sunglasses are designed exclusively for the scuba diving enthusiast.

Editor's Note: I was super excited to find these sunglasses as an alternative to expensive designer shades I lost so many of on dive boats. They look stylish, sporty and provide the UV protection I need while jet-skiing, river rafting or on dive days. See more dive related gear here

  • Great Range of Unusual Holiday Presents

Find Holiday Gift Ideas for 2010 hand-picked by the editors at Miss Scuba. See a great range of Unusual Unique Presents mixed with those would come to your mind as well when thinking what to get your girlfriend who is also a diver.

You have no idea what to get for your scuba dive friend this holiday season? We help you find creative gifts. All ideas reviewed by our editors; and here is a suggestion from one of our reader. "Your Scuba Series pendants are lovely, and would make a great holiday gift for any She Diver! Necklaces are great gifts in general, as some women find bracelets to be in the way, and might not have pierced ears.... I especially love the sitting mermaid with the blue stone & "dive" charm, but the seahorse & octopus are lovely as well. Cheers," Bambi Leigh Hale, Glendale, CA See our Gift Ideas here

    Breast Cancer Awareness

October is officially Breast Cancer Awareness Month, all over the world, something you'd be hard-pressed to miss with all the organized walks and runs for the cure and pink ribbon accessories, with all the stories of courageous women who fought breast cancer and lost, who battled it and won, their compelling tales of strength and survival a real-time oral history of a rapacious demon.

Women get breast cancer because of a genetic predisposition. Or not. Could be diet-related, or not. Perhaps it's environmental, or not. It's because we didn't breastfeed, or took birth control pills for too many years. Or not. Maybe it's all of the above risk factors, or none.

Breast cancer, like all its evil brethren, is an indiscriminate killer, the great leveller waging what seems an unrelenting modern war on young and old. The most recent data from the Canadian Cancer Society indicate that one in nine women will get breast cancer; one in 28 will not survive it.

Which is why so few of us are untouched by its carnage, why so many of us know someone who has it, someone who survived it and someone who didn't, a friend or a friend of a friend. Or a family member. Have you checked yourself lately? If not, take the time. Remind your sister, mother, girlfriend and dive buddy as well.

Breast Cancer & Fitness to Dive Issues

Divers Alert Network looks at treatments and discusses breast implants.

Question: I am 40 years old, an avid diver and in excellent health, but I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer. I am looking at various treatments, including the possibility of future reconstructive breast implants. How will breast cancer treatments and breast implants affect my fitness to dive?

Silver Price Increase from November 1

Unfortunately, the price of silver increased steeply over the past months. As a result, we have  to increase prices from November 1, 2010. Certain items will cost 20% more others might stay the same for a while longer. We apologize for this. The market has clearly gone insane. We hope we won't have to raise prices again for awhile, but all indicators point to higher and higher prices. Shop now at the old prices while you can at the Miss Scuba Store.

We all need to hold on tight as silver shifts from an everyday product to an affordable luxury. Miss Scuba will continue to work hard to provide you with amazing designs in the months to come.
